Quality deterioration of an Indian urban water source near an open dumping site

Abstract In developing countries, the stress of drinking water is often due to increase in population, and rivers are most important source water. this study, pollution Kadambrayar River, located southern India, was evaluated. The river flows through major establishments city, an open dumping site near its bank. infested with hyacinth, which considered a bioindicator bodies. Sixteen quality parameters were analyzed across eight sampling stations compared standard limits as per IS 10500:2012 2296:1992, WHO, ICMR. It found that such DO, BOD, Coliforms did not comply at any stations. heavy metals also for sediment samples, concentrations arsenic seven times higher chromium 50 than national limit. Thus, it can be concluded declining abruptly, especially downstream dumpsite, affecting ecosystem well human health when exposed carcinogenic metals.
